I agree. My friend has an HTC with Sense and I love it compared to my slow Samsung TouchWiz interface. It's gotten better with Froyo but still very sluggish.

As soon as Apple fixes the damn notification system and...preferably gives us some kind of option of customization of a home screen or something (just so its not just a bunch of useless icons), I will switch back to the iPhone. I kind of miss my 3GS.

That's my main concern with the next iPhone and iOS. Android has really evolved and come along way since its first iterations whereas iOS has started to become a tad bit stale, even with jailbreaking.

A couple of other interesting points (at least to me). Maybe it is meaningless, but kind of makes one wonder: What is the "Apple Movie" on the Bandwidth Test page? (Picture 4)

Also, the proximity sensor if visible on picture 24/25 range.

Why on earth would this happen? Why would they edit it to include the ix.Mac.MarketingName? I don't understand. Is there any logical explanation? I don't think it is a typo because I don't think Apple is stupid enough to edit it just in order to put a typo in. Weird.

Its humans at work - probably a human clicked a wrong button that added this thing with some placeholder name ... most likely means nothing or if anything than updated appleTV to run apps.

Universal MacOS/iOS apps just don't make sense (controlling the apps is just too different) and a apple branded TV makes no sense (appleTV does the trick for this and that way you don't have to buy an expensive TV to get the latest hardware - you just add it to the TV of your choice)

One must assume the carrier would prefer to sell an iPhone, where they don't have to make up the cost of a "free" Android phone over time. Carriers thus would want to sink more advertising dollars and apply more sales pressure for the more profitable iPhone.

Again, let's get the iPhone on Sprint and T-Mobile and see how it all plays out.

Very true, I am sure Telcos would rather sell you a $199 device AND still lock you into a contract(which is how is happens on high end Android and Iphones.)

Also I think carriers do bogo because they can push THEIR proprietary software that they bloat android devices with and make money that way. They cannot bloat iphone because apple doesnt roll like that. If you notice, T-mobile(who usually sells all the "pure" android devices) never do bogo for them. They will, however do a BOGO for a low end android phone with their apps on it.

maybe osx 11 can be named after whales. as each release gets more and more bloated the name would reflect that - os 11 narwhal, os 11.9 blue. not sure how marketing's going to handle sperm though.

Think iPad 2 with the "L" shape stand as the new iMac. Ditch the Optical Drive, not needed anymore considering its takes up space and is hardly ever used by the majority. :)

I may not be in the majority, but I use mine a great deal.

Too bad for those of us who wish they would divert a little more of their attention to their computer line.

Yeah. Gawd knows Apple hasn't done a thing with it's Mac line-up this year.

    What if he is?
Then good for him, but if he's that much of a power user, he's looking at a redesign of the PowerMac case, not a mini-tower.

Point is that there ARE lots of people who like to expand their systems.
Yeah, lots of gamers. But they aren't going to buy Macs anyway are they?

To them, iMac is completely unsuitable, and PowerMac is simply too much (too much space, too much technology, too much money, you name it). There have been LOTS of people saying that they would love to see a relatively inexpensive Mac that is expandable. iMac is not that. Neither is PowerMac.
You want a huge selection of models, each one suited to your particular needs? Apple tried the multiple models approach back in the 90s and nearly went bankrupt as a result. Keeping the range small means they have tight control on inventory and can dedicate the Apple Stores to showing what Macs can do. So far it's brought the company a lot of money.

What happens if the screen in the iMac breaks down? The whole computer becomes useless. What if you need faster vid-card? you have to buy a new computer. All-in-one has it's benefits, but it has it's drawbacks, and there are lots of people who do not want those drawbacks.
You may as well throw these criticisms at laptops. However, they sell. Apple mini-towers traditionally don't.

Yes, minitower (for example) has it's drawbacks as well, but there are lots of people who would be willing to accept those drawback for the benefits such a system offers.
But obviously not enough from the studies Apple have conducted, otherwise where is it?

Well good for you. How that helps ME is beyond me.
Just showing how the iMac does have "desirability" for hundreds of thousands of real buyers, something some posters here seem to refute.

Are we using somekind of miniature-desks or something? I have a rather typical desk, and it currently has a Mac Mini, a TFT-screen, old, huge printer that does not work, and it still has plenty of space for mouse, keyboard and other items.
Yeah, I used to have one of those, then I realised how much wasted space it was causing and ditched it for a smaller one. You obviously live in a bigger place than me, but then for me it's location, location, location :)

And that "small metallic box" means that your iMac loses that all-in-one elegance it now has.
I don't care about "all-in-one elegance". I didn't buy an iMac because it matches the curtains. I just want something that takes up minimum space. The iMac does that perfectly.

Some of us would be willing to accept that. A minitower would consume about as much desk-space as two Mac Mini's. That's more than reasonable IMO.
But only SOME of you. Why aren't Apple releasing a mini-tower? Jobs' arrogance or because they don't think it'll sell in enough quantity to justify it? As for two Mac minis, the case would have to be a standard depth to fit standard parts, otherwise we're back in the realm of special Mac versions of hardware.

Let's wait and see what comes out at WWDC. The G5 case had to be enormous for cooling reasons. The MacPro might be a lot smaller, fitting your requirements much closer whilst keeping Apple's range in check.

This sounds like a brilliant concept. If it ever makes it into a shipping product I suspect Apple would utilise it to maintain the protective layer of plastic over the screen like current iPods instead of exposing the fragile LCD/OLED display. The users could scroll directly on the iPod housing instead of having to float their finger in the air above the display.

I am just too conservative for that. Two porn stars and a suitcase full of viagra would be enough...oh, ok, three, but forget the $30k, that would never happen.

BTW, There must be some product placement game going on. The last show featured Pacifico beer and they started out with the labels clearly shown, just all perfectly aligned, and later in the show they were turned around exactly 180 and although everyone was drinking it, their hands carefully covered the labels.

There must be people who follow this. Maybe Pacifico stopped making payments or something half way thru the production of the show...?

    From email:

Please note that the iTunes Store Terms of Sale state that all sales are final, so this is a one-time exception.

The best way to avoid unintentional purchases is to use the Shopping Cart. That way, you can consolidate and review your selections carefully and buy them when you're ready. Here's how to use the Shopping Cart:

    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n93017

Did they really tell you to use the Shopping Cart feature in iTunes? Because since iTunes 9 this feature is gone now! The documentation you/Apple quoted is depricated unless your still using a pre iTunes 9 version.

LOL... my friend, lets look at this logically. The United States debt surpasses every combined nations of Earth. Our currency is no longer backed by gold, 100% of our income tax pays the interest on our national debt. We transfered our producing companies to other countries. Most people have taken out equity loans on their homes and have maxed out their credit. The middle class will be no more and there is no getting out of our predicament. We are simply not producing enough money to ever get out of debt and with inflation out of control and devaluation of our currency a collapse will happen. In 1929 the good to debt ratio before the collapse was 1:16 as of 2006 it was sitting at 1:60. I have nothing to prove other than I'd cash out now and invest when this happens.

The National debt is meaningless. It is actually going down yearly in relation to GDP.
Do you even have any idea when the last time the US was on the Gold Standard? Can you name any other country whose currency is backed by gold?
If 100% of our income tax pays off the interest on the Debt, how then does the government operate?
Now you are just getting silly. Most people have taken out equity loans and maxed out their credit? Please.
America is still a manufacturing giant. Our exports to China were up 21% last quarter. We are still known for high quality, precision manufacturing few countries can match- with the exception of Germany.
There are more middle class Americans today than in any other point in history.
Why do you think a weak dollar is bad? Sure, there may be some inflation, however, a weak dollar is good for exports and tourism. Take a look at Boeing vs. Airbus, as it relates to the devaluation of the dollar. There's a reason China artificially keeps their currency devalued.
Somehow, I doubt you have a dime invested in the market...

Where did I claim any of those things ?

*sigh*, at this point, I'll just ignore your comments, do the same for mine.

Then what were you trying to prove?

All the browsers do it. ChromeOS is just a browser for a normal consumer.

What were you actually trying to prove? What was your point? Sure you can ignore my comments if you dont have an answer. Fair enough.

Let's just assume it's half music and half movies. That's roughly 142,000 songs and over 3000 movies. At .99 cents per song and $10 per movie, that's $170,000 if he paid for it. And he's complaining about $20 year. Hmmm....

Well, I don't know about this guy specifically. But I own over 20,000 vinyl records. Average 10 tracks each, that's 200,000 songs right there. Not to count at least that many 45's. A collection I've gathered over 50 years. Not to mention 78's, cylinders, etc.

Ever shopped a used music store? Movie store? Goodwill? I have thousands of movies myself, many of which I only paid a dollar or even less for.

I download hundreds of songs from emusic for about half the iTunes price.

It's pretty easy to amass a large collectiion without ever paying retail, and being completely legal.

I can't even begin to count the LP's that have been GIVEN to me over the years by people who went to CD and didn't want them anymore, taking up room. Literally station wagons full -- back when station wagons were HUGE. Cost? How about 0 cents per track, except the time spent playing them into the computer. And I'll be damned if I rebuy all the vinyl I bought through the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Ever have someone GIVE you a few hundred CD's because they're all now in their computer and ipod, and they don't want them taking up the room anymore? Sure, thats probably not legal, however, they made a copy and gave the originals away! It certainly wasn't a legal violation on my part! Are they supposed to put them in the trash? I suppose so.

Any idea how many CD's you can buy out there at 50 cents a pop at second hand stores and garage sales? Somehow, that's still legal!

I know I'm not the only one like me out here! Just saying... you're not considering the possibilities. And there's no way I would EVEr pay to stream my stuff from the internet (there is no "cloud")

I agree it might be great but I doubt if it will be a priority for them now. Grammar engine and word processing muscles would be the first to get added. For current notetaking and notes management you should look into Circusponies Notebook - it is an awesome package for just 29 bucks (academic price) and is feature packed.

Me myself can't wait for a spread sheet application! The last real need for I have for M$'s ORIFICE would be over!!

I'm not sure I understand this "notebook" view. I don't see any such view in MS Word, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Taking notes was mentioned, so are you talking about notes relating to a given document? Pages 2 has something like that:

    http://www.apple.com/iwork/pages/features/comments.html

If it's something else, I'm curious to understand it better.

Oh, and thanks for the links, kiwi-in-uk.

    August 1st.

Who really cares when it is released...the iPhone 4 is still an amazing piece of hardware...still "wows" me everytime I pick it up.

The most important point...we know a new one will be released...guaranteed. Can't say that about Blackberry or others these days...

4.3.2 for ATT/Europe iPhone, 4.2.7 for Verizon iPhone...........funny how Apple says Android is fragmented, but has slight fragmentation themselves. I know its an old argument, but its true. Apple need to bring all updates to the same version number with the same feature set. I mean, when the heck is the Verizon iPhone going to get 4.3 already? Also, 2.3.3 Gingerbread for Android is about 80mb ;) .
