I the first iPhone is FAR from the original smart phone. First Smart phone that was simple to use. But far from original.

That's terrible. I use a computer because I don't want to use paper. And I don't want to see paper on my computer screen. Bone-heads. Need to get rid of these old paper-centric fogies at Apple.
Really? I use the a computer because it is easier to enter, store, and edit information. Not because I don't want it to look like paper. The less "high-tech" a computer looks, the better, in my opinion. It makes it more friendly and approachable.
I'd like to see some testing done on whether these "like the real thing" UIs help. This leads to every window looking different, and while that may sound awful, it might be easier to see the window you want out of a see of windows. It also leads to the app being more approachable.
As for the distraction argument, full screen mode is supposed to eliminate that, so if iCal is in the background, you'll never see it. There's also the Hide function in every app.

Kinda takes away from that whole "Simplicity is everything" slogan Apple is known for, doesn't it? While I'll reserve my judgments on the design until it's worked into a final product, it does look like the user needs to take unnecessary steps to actually use the click wheel. Then again, pictures (drawings) probably can't do the interface justice.

sure. apple has no problem giving a refund, as they keep their 30% that the developer now has to pay. that's a cool $300 that apple just ripped off from the developer all to protect their mistake and their idiot customers.

If I ruled the world the person / people doing the beating would get a mandatory minimum 5 years in jail. The prison population would go up short term but the message would get across eventually. No getting out early for good behaviour either.

Anyways, just picked up mass effect 2 for ps3 for my brother who has been good the last few weeks helping me out with my ebay biz.
*And typing this post on my last purchase - an HP mini 1030nr that I just hackintoshed...everything works great! A little macbook air for $90 bucks! Very happy right now!

It has been brought to attention that Apple is encrypting certain parts of the OS kernel. Does this have any bearing in this discussion or it is only to make piracy of the OS more difficult?

I've been an AAPL shareholder on and off since 1982. The company has NEVER been healthier or hotter than it is now. We all know about the record sales of Macs, iPods, iPhones, etc. I was at a major shopping center on weekday afternoon a few days ago, and the Apple Store was literally the only store in the mall that could have been classified as "busy" (and not just with lookers but with buyers).
Yes, with things so good at the moment one has to wonder where the room for improvement is? Markets are forward looking and it would seem the markets don't see much room for improvement right now.

Oh I forgot...yes...the "Specs" argument. My bad. AND the Closed vs. Open debate. Yes...that too. It's so open that I can't upgrade to the latest Android version, because it's not available for carrier XYZ. But that's not Android's fault, or the Phone's fault. You can root it though. That's awesome...root it, then download the newest launcher, then reset it, and do this, and do that. Then when that's all done, it's no better than it was when I started. But hey, my icons are Green! Cool...

yet you guys have so little faith to pretty much say that apple is going to screw the pooch by releasing the next mba with inferior graphics performance? what are you, insecure?

Setting aside the question of no VM at all, has it occurred to anyone that having a restriction on running in a VM even on the licensed machine could put a damper on the idea of having Parallels (or VMWare) be able to start up off of the BootCamp partition? As that's an ability that I've been wanting, that's something that bothers me about this....

I find the ip4 to be way too heavy and awkward to hold. I like this design, it allows weight to be shaved off and perhaps (!) be more ergonomically friendly.
I agree that the back should be made extra study and NOT in chrome. I see them using the same type of backing as the ipads...
One more thing that the tapered back will enable is ease of use while its on a desk because the viewing angle will be nicer. On the other hand, it would make it more awkward in landscape mode and for playing game because one side would be thicker than the other. Perhaps its easy to get used to? time will tell!
